During the last 5 years, "A state of DevOps" report has been changing radically our understanding and measuring software development processes, thanks to It we now have the connecting lines between software development techniques and business performance. In this talk, I'd like to introduce the audience to the science behind "A State of DevOps" and dive deep in the most relevant and unknown techniques that would boost our performance and happiness at work
In my talk, I'd like to introduce the audience to the science behind DevOps and the linked techniques that have a positive impact in business performance. Some of these techniques are very basic and common sense (i.e. using version control), but some others challenge some strong opinions spread in our community. Concepts like Trunk Based Development, deployment automation and team empowerment have a strong impact in our teams ways of working and this should be known to stop taking instinct and trendy-based decisions and use what science proved that work.
I plan to introduce how to read Dr. Nicole Forsgren's findings from the perspective of an app developer as the numbers are biased by BE and Web delivery and the unique characteristics of app development should affect the reading, so there are some considerations to be made if you want to use this to make decisions for our own projects
I also plan to introduce to the audience the most interesting techniques for a developer regarding architecture decisions, trunk based development applied for apps, deployment automation or CI/CD tools, however there are other non-development focus techniques that I can get deep if necessary, regarding culture, processes and measurement (app and workflow monitoring)
